The film industry in Uganda faces numerous challenges, including limited funding, infrastructure, government support, and visibility in the national entertainment market. To address these issues and promote growth and sustainability, a groundbreaking initiative called the ‘24- Hour Film Production Challenge’ has been conceived by Komakech Daniels, an alumnus of the Kuonyesha Art Fund. This unique program allows a team of filmmakers from Gulu City to write, shoot, edit, and premiere a short film within a 24-hour timeframe, putting their skills, experience, time management, and creativity to the ultimate test.
Spanning from 6:30 pm on June 29th, 2023, to 6:30 pm on June 30th, 2023, the 24-Hour Film Production Challenge sought to establish an all-encompassing and enduring structure for the film industry, with a particular emphasis on Gulu City. This groundbreaking event concentrated on three essential aspects: nurturing talent, leveraging social media platforms to promote the industry, and fostering collaborative partnerships among filmmakers and stakeholders.
